The Claret Father's Day Gift Guide

Father's Day isn't just about dads. It's a chance to celebrate the people who have been there for us — whether that's Dad, a stepdad, grandfather, father figure, or someone who has stepped into that role along the way. And, of course, there are plenty of single mums who've been doing double duty and deserve a good bottle too.

So, whoever you're celebrating this Father's Day, we've done the hard work for you.

Start with a Claret Gift Box

If you're not sure what Dad likes — or you simply want to make things very easy — our curated Claret gift boxes are a pretty good place to start. We've put together a selection of bottles and delicious things to enjoy, with options to suit different tastes and budgets.

Starting from $75, our Claret gift boxes are ready to go, beautifully presented and made for sharing.

For the Dad Who Loves Great Wine

If Dad is a wine man, there are few better places to start than By Farr.

Made just down the road, By Farr is one of Australia's most celebrated wine producers, and we've got their Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Viognier on the shelves, starting from $118 a bottle.

For something closer to home, Bannockburn Vineyards is another Geelong icon worth knowing, with their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay showing exactly why our little corner of Victoria is so special for cool-climate wine.

And then there's Pooley Black Label...

For the Dad who knows his wine — and deserves something seriously special — Pooley Black Label is the bottle we'd be putting at the top of the list. Pooley is one of Tasmania's great wine families, with a history stretching back to 1985 and a reputation for exceptional cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. The Black Label wines sit at the very top of the range: small-production, super-limited wines made only in the best vintages.

These are not your everyday bottles. They're the sort of wines you buy for someone who appreciates provenance, rarity and a really good bottle of wine.

And Pooley is having a very good moment indeed — the winery was recently named the winner of the 2026 Sydney Royal Wine Show, adding another pretty impressive line to an already long list of accolades.

Our pick: If you're looking for a Father's Day bottle that says we really went for it, this is it.

For the Dad Who Likes His Shiraz

Few wine regions have the reputation of the Barossa Valley when it comes to Shiraz.

For something approachable and seriously good, Sons of Eden is a great place to start. Their wines deliver plenty of classic Barossa generosity without needing a the price tag.

Then there's Torbreck. The Woodcutters Shiraz is a Claret favourite and a brilliant introduction to the producer, while Struie takes things up a notch. And if you're looking for something a little more fun, there's always the Woodcutters in a Magnum. Which lets be honest, everything is also fun in a magnum size.

Because sometimes Dad doesn't need a bigger present. He just needs a bigger bottle. Maybe a better excuse to share it with you...?

For the Dad Who Loves Beer

Wine isn't the only thing we're excited about. We've just received a fresh shipment of Augustiner German lagers, bringing a little taste of Munich to Claret. Crisp, refreshing and ridiculously easy to enjoy, they're exactly what you want when the afternoon calls for a cold beer.

For something a little more adventurous, we've also got Kriek and Framboise Belgian beers — fruit-driven, tart and a world away from your standard lager. And for the hop-loving Dad, we're big fans of Mountain Culture's IPAs. They're a great option for someone who likes their beer hazy, juicy and seriously hop-forward. Then there's Bridge Road's Celtic Red Ale — malty, balanced and a lovely change of pace from the IPA-heavy world of craft beer. Or, for the Dad who likes his beer with a little bit of weird, Garage Project's Pickle Beer, no description needed, tastes as intended.

Too hard to decide...make a day of it. Pick up a selection of different lagers and turn Father's Day into a little lager discovery session. German, Belgian, Australian — see which one Dad declares the winner.

PSA: we offer 15% off mixed six-packs, so you can pick and choose six different beers rather than committing to a whole case of the same thing.

For the Whisky & Bourbon Dad

Then there are the dads who would much rather have a good dram. For Australian whisky, Bakery Hill is a classic, while Lindemans, North Star and South Star are all worth exploring for something a little different.

If Dad likes Scotch but doesn't take himself too seriously, Monkey Shoulder is an easy-drinking crowd pleaser. For the Bourbon Dad, we've got some proper icons, including Buffalo Trace and Willett.

And if you're looking further afield, Redbreast is a brilliant choice for Irish whiskey, while Akashi Red offers a very approachable introduction to Japanese whisky without going straight for the big-ticket bottles.

Basically, so whether Dad likes his whisky Scottish, Irish, Australian, American or Japanese, we've got something on the shelf for you.

For the Dad Who Has Everything

This is where the little things come in.

Because a great Father's Day present doesn't necessarily have to be a $200 bottle.

We've got José Gourmet tinned fish galore — the kind of beautifully packaged pantry treats that are almost too good to open. Add some fresh Supreme coffee beans for the Dad who starts every morning with a serious coffee, or throw in a few little chocolate treats from Loco Love or Tony's Chocolonely. A tin of something delicious, a bag of great coffee and some chocolate alongside a bottle of wine or whisky? Honestly, we'd be pretty happy with that.

And if Dad really is impossible to buy for...

There's always the Claret gift card. Because sometimes the best gift is letting Dad come in, take his time wandering the shelves and choose exactly what he wants. We won't judge if he takes a while.

A few bottles we think are worth knowing about...

We always feel so lucky to be able to stock wonderful things on the shelf that we think will bring some level of discovery, excitement but above all else quality for you. Some are already established names. Others are producers we think you’ll be hearing us wax lyrical about in store. Either way, if you see something interesting on the shelf, ask us about it. We’re always happy to point you towards something new.
